Halloween Quilt + A New Machine!

Oct 31, 2016

Happy Halloween! I hope you all had a great October. Mine had its ups & downs but last week during my birthday was overall pretty good. I got a few things finished, did some shopping with my mom and a new quilt shop I had never been to and spent time with family :)

First up, I want to show you my latest finish - a Fat Quarter Fizz quilt (free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop) done in a mixture of Cotton & Steel lines Spellbound, Lucky Strikes & Boo, as well as a little Maud Ashbury and Alison Glass mixed in for good measure.

Fat Quarter Fizz is a SUPER fast pattern. I completed the top in less than 2 days (working on and off) and could have easily done it in a few hours total if I had had the time to sit down and focus solely on the quilt itself.

I love, love, LOVE the colors on this quilt!! I am totally a Halloween person though. You know how most people love Christmas? Thats not really me, which probably seems odd, I mean everyone loves Christmas and I do too it's just not my favorite holiday to decorate for... what can I say? lol My birthday, husbands birthday. moms birthday, wedding anniversary etc. etc are all in October so I naturally love Fall!

Anyway, moving on. The quilting on this was done by Shanon at River House Quilting and I adore the way it turned out! It's done in the Webs & Spiders long arm design in charcoal colored thread. It complimented the quilt so well!

This quilt finished at approx. 60" x 72" and is the perfect throw size for my family - especially since the kids love to snuggle under it with me anytime I grab a quilt lol. The batting is Quilter's Dream 100% cotton. It was my first time using this batting and I LOVE IT. It has phenomenal drape and isn't too light or too heavy. Its perfect. New favorite batting!

Last but not least, I would like to share my brand new machine! My mom was kind enough to take my shopping for my birthday to a quilt shop I'd never been to and after doing some damage to our wallets on fabric we checked out the machines they had for sale and I tested a few out.

I fell in love with this Janome 3160 and how user friendly and simple it was - plus my previous machine did not have an available quilting extension table (it had an embroidery unit) so I really really wanted my next one to have a table. After testing a few and mentioning I really liked this one, she surprised me and bought it for me, paid for all my fabric then we went to lunch and Olde Dutch Restaurant in Logan, Ohio (great home cooked food!).

Overall I has a great month and I hope the rest of the year follows! How was your October?

Thanks for reading :)
