Harry Potter Baby Quilt

Nov 9, 2016

Last night while watching the election results I quilted and bound this gorgeous Harry Potter themed baby quilt. It's for an old friend of mine from my school days that I keep in touch with online. She is having her second baby, a boy, and I was honored to have her sister ask me to make a quilt for the new little guy!

It has got a pretty huge reaction on Instagram and since I had several questions about the fabrics and whatnot I thought i'd share the info for the quilt here!

This quilt is made up of several cuts of designer fabrics, which I've listed below. I went a bit into the rabbit hole with these fabric choices. I wanted them all to be perfect, and in some way, for them all to represent something from the Harry Potter world and I think I accomplished that! There are owls, newspaper prints, deer, prints that looks like equations or "spells" written out, and even specifically Harry Potter themed prints from Spoonflower which are SO cute!

Pattern:

Framed by Silk Road Life - only 16 blocks with a row for name.

Pattern calls for a layer cake (10" squares) but i did NOT use precuts. It just requires a bit of math and cutting your prints correctly to get 2 blocks cut from each prints.

Quilt Top:

Quilt Backing

The baby's name is done in a foundation paper pieced Harry Potter Alphabet by Fandom in Stitches. Wonderful, wonderful website for anyone who loves FPP. So many amazing free patterns.

The fabrics used were scraps leftover from the 1/4 yard and fat quarter prints used in the quilt top. I had just enough of everything to finish this top with what was purchased.

The recipient already loves the quilt and I hope you do to! This was a fast finish and I'd love to make more in the future!
